If you’ve never purchased a quaich before, it can be difficult to know where to start.

We’re here to help!

Which material?

Quaichs are made using a variety of materials, the main ones being pewter, silver plate and sterling silver. We also offer wooden, horn, glass and ceramic models. You can choose any of these types of quaichs for any occasion. They can vary significantly in price so choosing the right one will depend on your budget.

Does size matter?

There are no rules when it comes to choosing the size of your quaich, although the largest sizes (6.5” [16.5cm] and over) are normally only used as achievement awards. If you would like to engrave a few lines of text, then you will need to consider the size of quaich that you are ordering.

If the quaich is to be used as part of a wedding ceremony, and you would like to share a drink from the vessel, then the 3.5” (8.9cm) – 4.5” (11.4cm) sizes are the most popular. Unless of course you wish to share a dram with all your guests, in which case I would suggest one of our larger sizes!

– Our toasting quaichs are shallow, and are designed to hold a small amount of whisky which you sup after making a toast.
– Quaichs that are to be used as christening gifts tend to be in the size range 2.5” (6.4cm) – 4” (10.2cm).
– If you wish to present a quaich as an achievement award or trophy they are normally in the range 3.5” (8.9cm) – 6.5” (16.5cm).

Engraving

We usually engrave our quaichs inside the bowl (if there isn’t a design inside the bowl already!). You can also opt to have the engraving on the outside of the bowl. It’s always a good idea to try to keep the text concise. It’s important to bear in mind the relationship between the size of quaich that you are ordering and the amount of text you would like.

When is a quaich a suitable gift?

A quaich can be a gift to celebrate friendship, love, achievement, a special birthday, the birth of a child. It is a lovely gift that celebrates Scottish heritage in a positive way.
